SANTIAGO MALS

Quimera
Oil on canvas 100 x 100cm $2490
My work explores the challenges of identity in today’s fragmented and hyperconnected world. I investigate how cultural dislocation and the forces of globalisation shape who we are both individually and collectively. This painting is part of a series that reflects the complexities of my inner journey as a foreigner, navigating the transformations of living between cultures, marking an ongoing process of self-discovery.This piece invites viewers to confront the tension between belonging and alienation, encouraging reflection on how external systems and internal conflicts shape our sense of self.Recently highlighted by Artshub Australia for its contribution to the conversation around identity, this work affirms my commitment to creating spaces where these questions can be faced honestly. As an artist shaped by migration, I believe my perspective on fluid identity and mixed cultures adds value to Australia’s cultural landscape as a place built and continually renewed by many cultures and journeys.
