My practice engages critically with the intersection of material culture, narrative construction, and historical representation, primarily through the mediums of ceramics and painting. Drawing on a diverse range of references — from British colonial iconography and religious imagery to vernacular craft traditions — my work interrogates the ideological and aesthetic legacies embedded in everyday objects. Trained in fine art in Scotland and originally from Stoke-on-Trent, a city historically shaped by ceramic production, I have lived and worked in Australia since 1999. This transnational context informs my interrogation of cultural identity, hybridity, and the transmission of visual languages across geographies and generations. The current work, Ralph in the Afternoon draws on memory, myth, folklore, and personal history. Ralph Reid was my ancestor who emigrated to Australia during the highland clearances of the 1850's. Through this work I explore and reconstruct a history which has been eroded and eradicated by time.
